Does anyone else feel really dissatisfied? I'm so confused by all the signs of progression we were given like Yana joining a different friend group and feeding him steak at the bbq. But now it feels like we went back to square one cause the mc hasn't changed at all and Yana is still madly in love with Sosuke and still treating our mc like human trash... Does our mc stay lonely forced to watch others have fulfilling romances the whole story?
Not really. You don’t just move on right away. It has been like a week or 2 since Yanami was rejected. The whole premise is watching the losing heroines, even if it doesn’t turn into a romance then I’m still satisfied.
Exactly this. Yanami still needs to get over her childhood friend. There's definitely 'flags' between her and Nukumizu, I'd say, and they continue to accumulate them based on what I saw in the anime (as well as with the other girls, admittedly, but I think there's a preponderance of development between Yanami and Nukumizu), but she still needs to move on, and that takes time.
Hell, we even have a timeline, arguably, with what Nukumizu said here: 2-3 years. 2-3 years before he thinks it'd be appropriate to confess romantic feelings. Doesn't mean it'll actually take that long (there's always the chance he'll change his thinking before then, or even Anna will make the first move- either way it still hinges on her getting over Sosuke), but it certainly sets an expectation that it might take until around their final year at Tsuwabuki High before any official moves happen. And considering the pace of this story, that's a ways away even in the LN, from what I understand.
I think these two kids have a lot of great chemistry and tension, though, so I'm pretty confident something will happen, even if the story ends before it does. Hell, the anime seemed to imply something
did happen for its anime-exclusive finale (the whole final episode was explicitly written by the original creator for the anime, according to what I've read), and I can live with that.
