No, the series started with a younger man attempts at romancing a older women that happened to be his boss ... this isnt new as a concept even by setting it in a fantasy world.
But such series dont have much legs if only sticking to the concept alone because there is only as much as it can go, thus they introduce the rival(s), same happened here but as that got solved there isnt much to go anymore, thus we get this side adventure because its a fantasy setting (in a normal setting, one would just get transferred for the whole long distance angle) that is focusing on Haru because duh, he is the one were tension can be applied and not Karen since if she got the option of a close-to-her age interest she would jump in the opportunity, he is the only one were that works because he is more likely to stick with Karen instead of jump ship.
You want to call bad writing because instead of a microcosmo that is about oh "The Capital" the author is expanding to outside it? You wanted for it to be Karen and Haru honeymoon vacation or something?
As for bad characters ... ah, here comes he tourists because they are bitching on the fact given power women will abuse it about in the same lines men will, they are basically doing the same as men would but of course, The Message and that is hilarious and proof why we have to gatekeep because a certain crowd long been trying to twist Japanese culture into the same "inclusive" mold of the American Culture. The characters are "bad" because they are showing sexist attitudes towards Haru just because of his gender, they arent even acting as "thirsty amazonas" but in line of what would happen when there is just a disparity not only in power (political, economical and also physical) but in demographics (as they vastly outnumber males) but since that goes against The Message we cannot have that.
And no, I wont keep those comments to myself because I wont be bullied out, I can make concise points over this and not some very broad generalizations ... could we had more haru and Keren kiss/slap/kiss/punch? sure but it was a creative void because it was the same, Haru wanting Commitment with Karem wanting to see your Manager and I rather they do that instead of keep Karem as a old hag assaulting Haru, that would be a toxic relationship that is only acceptable because its either funny (not if the roles are reversed) or because of The Message.
Edit:
Also notice how most comments are about hornie that is what I would typical do, most readers seem to like this arc because boobies, uncensored nipples and Amazonas ... the sexism subtext is obvious there but not to the point were its poisoning the series for most readers.
