at some point i question why japan is so hesitant to actually show a sex scene
i mean it's a part a character development when it come to relation and a lot of western film do have some, but japan who is way more openly pervert never really show a actual sex scene
If you can read that level of "lewdness" you can read the real thing so it won't chock you

@Zblurth Japan used to be more open about sex, but influence from Western countries made them start censoring it.

They have censorship laws much to the Western buyer's dismay. The Japanese usually would have to get Western porn if they want to see hardcore uncensored porn.

but japan who is way more openly pervert
They're not all like that. Most properly feel ashamed for coming upon an unexpected sex scene in a drama in the TV living room with family like most Western people do.
In the same vein, it would be awkward to find indecent content in a magazine at a convenience store in broad daylight.

With that in mind, publishers would have to be mindful of what they allow on their media if they want their magazines or books to be put in the front shelves and not in the back room with an R18 sign on it.

Anyone know if the artist has another name? I'm pretty damn sure this guy draws porn but I can't find anything with their name on it so they must be using another name when drawing their...other works...

Not starting an argument with anyone, just answering @Zblurth questions.

Originally, the Japanese did not find sex or sexual acts indecent or disgusting at all. Sure the Japanese people of old did have the concepts of purity and relationship similar to the modern age, but sex itself was not something dirty to them. Even when the Portuguese came, they weren't really affected by the concepts of monogamy as the Portuguese's movements were restricted and the general population continued as they were.

Enter the westerners, or specifically, the Americans, who enforced the idea that sex and prostitution are depraved and disgusting. This ideals were prevalent in Meiji period, but the effect was low. While the Japanese understood why the Americans consider it so, they in general couldn't care less, and literature that mocked American fetish such as pedophilia, prostitution, nudity and orgies were rampant during the Meiji era. It wasn't outlawed, and was seen as a kind of satire of how restricted American society was.

Then the Japanese lost the world war, and among others, they were forced to accept the American values regarding sex and nudity. For decades, this value were fought by the general public and the rules against it were generally ignored. Then the Japanese government back then decided to accept minimal compliance by letting them have their sex and nudity with some restriction. The obscenity act is still there, but they redefined what is obscene.

The baseline:
1) Genital (penis & vagina) depictions are no-no. It has to either not be drawn or censored even if drawn. As long as the genitals aren't shown, it does not violate the obscenity act.

If you want to sell in bookstores:
1) Same as the baseline but for a bookstore exceeding a certain size, an adult-only section must be allocated for such literature.

If you want to sell in convenience stores:
1) Same as the baseline and any literature containing sex between blood-related family members is not allowed. That's why you see a lot of inseki and not incest these days.

If you want to film a public porn:
1) You need to have a permit to do it for the site you want to do it at.

Ah of course. You could see some authors and maybe even editors are really pushing the limits of decency. However, they can only go so far to keep their magazines from being taken off the shelves as I've mentioned.

Tankobons (manga volumes) on the other hand get more freedom, but mangas are usually first published along with others in magazines. Usually, the only difference between tankobon and magazine versions is that the latter would have more white outs and black bars. Authors don't usually redraw entire chapters for a tankobon, but instead they add "omake", which are extra illustrations, extra chapters, or other content like concept art.

On a side note, you'd find that some scanlations come out months later after magazine releases because scanlators would wait for the higher quality tankobons.

MC really wrote a self-insert porn fanfic and deliberately left it for Karen to find and read aloud. Absolute madlad.

Now if he wrote a genuine love story and Karen deliberately kept it as a memento, that would be cute.

Guess this also works and they pretty much drew the haru x karen scenes for them shotacons lul.
