Now that would be the WORST possible thing ZUN could do. An ultimate middle finger to what all mystery stories stand for, as if the genre hasn't been disrespected enough in this manga...

It truly was a foul thing to do, it was like a "what's that pokemon?" with silhouette of mima only to reveal to that it's actually mizuchi. Mizuchi isn't mima but I like her so I hope reimu doesn't give her the fortune teller treatment.

Not to mention the habit of key evidence only being given to the reader DURING the reveal.
Like the whole "Kaguya goes to the village" twist.

ZUN better not go all "Mystery Box" on us, either. Despite the name similarities, mystery boxes don't go well with mystery stories.

Like, it's not the first time either. All the mentions of potential characters that only have that... a name (ex: Tenma, Konpaku Youki...) and Zun never brought them up ever again. Sure, Youki is a male which would be almost blasphemous to Touhou Project to have a major character that's male (not counting Rinnosuke which isn't a major character that was part of an incident) and Tenma is most likely male as well. I'm surprised that Zun revealed Yuuma Toutetsu after only mentionning her by last name in WBaWC.

Don't get me wrong. I WANT ZUN TO EXPAND MIIZUCHI'S BACKSTORY AS MUCH AS YOU DO. The fact that this whole manga will end in a status quo as always (Reimu will have her Shrine back - as seen in Lotus Eater (whether or not this is the new one or the old one is unknown and that fucks with my head) and I really wish that Zun would actually make something happen that'd have serious repercussions that would change the dynamic of his world. Coming back to the status quo each time is boring AF.

As for the genre argument, clearly, he went into this not taking it seriously...

Well, since Youkai Mountain ERUPTED and the current Lotus Eater arc involves Sannyo being at her place, I'd say the current Lotus Eater chapters are likely to take place before Detective Satori, as there's NO WAY that ZUN could just ignore a volcanic eruption.

Chapter 44 of Lotus Eaters makes it very clear that it overlaps the early part of the Detective story as Orin is investigating the Human Village for the as yet unidentified vengeful spirit in that chapter on behalf of Satori.

Which means that ZUN will eventually HAVE to tackle some of the LATER events, at some point.
I doubt that everyone would just MISS a VOLCANIC ERUPTION.
And considering that Miyoi's main provider is involved in that Incident...
