Really hope these kids get punished somehow than the typical scenario where Cross just forgives them for attempted murder. Or worse where even if he wins here, they're just going to spin it that he assaulted them when they least suspected it (if they're willing to be looked down even further). Thanks for the chapter.

Tit-for-tat, ya little b*tch. You were doing the exact same thing to him, and you're still too stupidly full of yourself to get it. Worse, the MC is too dumb to figure out she is not his friend.

And here I was about to pitch a hypothesis about him being Jobless, but that little ambush had to happen. I never read the novel or even aware if there is one, so no, I'm not trying to spoil.

Jobless, and stats = 0, maybe because they're all immeasurable. Stats potentially broke the ceiling of the measurement standard, so they're all registering as 0 instead; it's an error reading, like "Jitsu wa Ore, Saikyou Deshita?", where MC has a magic output of 1002, but scanners can only read double-digits, so he only got a rating of 02. Because his specific tendencies can't be gauged, he's "Jobless", because his job cannot be defined. Weak at the beginning, because training with normals couldn't bring out his real potential. Just a guess. That may be how the author will spin it.

To give us villains to hate. So we'll keep coming back, if only to watch characters like her get shredded into mulch.
Mainly to forgive her later... even though it'd be more satisfying to make her tortured and regret everything...
She’s so fucking annoying, why do mangaka feel the need to make characters like her?
Mainly cause these authors can't do good writing, so they need to make cheap 2nd rate villains for us to hate so that we can be distracted and happy when they lose...

But then these authors are often too wimpy to actually make the retribution actually worth anything.

I mean, if that's the intention, that's a fail for me. Cuz I'm just dropping the series, knowing how dumb it's about to get.

Thank you for the chapter! I'm really curious about the answer to the mystery of his whole status.

Attempted murder and gang jumping a kid because of muh pride, just tie these kids up and throw them to the wolves at this point, hope they don't come after this with the "We changed and regret this, we will suffer no consequences for our actions and will appear only as background characters from now on" plot.

Thw way I see things going down is that the big scary mob that has cleared out the western wood will show up and either injuring the shitty orphans or they retreat leaving MC as bait.

MC will defeat big bad mob because plot device.

Kids are either surprised he survived or are helped back to town in shame.

Well, that's how bullies tend to act anyway.

I had to look at the raws to see how this would pan out and even though it wasn't as bad as it could be I'm still disappointed enough to just drop this outright. Well, it's not the worst-case scenario so I'm sure most people will at least be okay with it, but I'm not wasting any more time with this. A shame since it's pretty well drawn, and the overall plot is decent enough so far.
