Hi are you Shunga Lover for I have a question regarding the third painting you posted (naked in the mirror) at the bottom of this chapter.

I was lead to believe that the normal convention for nude portraits of women at the time was that they were to be hairy as a way to provide decency. The women in the third picture is depicted shaved, why is that? Is this because unlike pictures which were made to be framed a put on public display this is in fact hard core pornography for the time to be hidden away in private.

Well, as I said, I think that one is a prepubescent girl, so no hair down there. In classic paintings usually artists avoided some body parts as much as possible, however as you have probably seen you can see sometimes penises, vaginas (even though not in great detail usually) in works like "Adam and Eve" and other similar stories of the Bible. Children, even Jesus Christ at a young age or the angels (those called "putti"), were often drawn naked.

I think you guys sometimes overhink and overanalyze too much...no offense, but remember that this is a manga, a fictional story, as you have (and soon will) see, it contains a lot of implausibilities. In other words manga aren't a 100% accurate representation of the real world. Besides when you read a fictional story you should always, IMHO, apply some kind of "suspension of disbelief".
I'm sure that if you can do it with Naruto, you can do it with more realistic manga too.

I always wondered and you should better than me but is detective a foreign borrowed word in Japanese? For Tsubaki the Hope Seller sound very much like its supposed to translate to Tsubaki the detective but if detective is a borrowed foreign word it makes a sort of sense in edo Japanese it would be literally translated as what the word detective means.
