This chapter has made me think that the hero's spirit actually left and we're not seeing a vestige or the body's true nature. The holy sword merged with his flesh and blood, so what if the hero's spirit intentionally escaped to avoid being consumed by the holy sword. In his inner world, the holy sword probably takes on the form of the hero because it's merged with his body

Actually enjoying this series. From the pacing, it's blindingly obvious it isn't going to be a long one, but it seems like it sure will be fun, what with a character who wants to change (Hero), constant twists (if sometimes a little... edgy) and a decent plotline. My only grievance is that there appears to be very little military force from the human side in this "War", but oh well. can't expect logic to always be at the forefront of a good story.
