Maybe they just want to move some parts around or there's some dumb behind the scenes thing or there's a surprisingly human issue with the creators and corporate isn't going to bother putting it on hold while things are resolved.

It's no longer about making any kind of long term profit. It's all about hyping the numbers for the quarter, so just fire everyone as soon as the comic no longer keeps attracting more people (money) constantly from month over month. And start a new one (because then you can claim it went from zero to something).
