So Waffles found out that his win in the tournament wasn't legitimate, and that's what broke him in the previous loop. But Ed knows for a fact that Waffles is the destined hero for this world because of his skill that ensures he meets and befriends the hero in every world he travels to.

I definitely understand why Ed is invested in making sure things turn out better on this loop, beyond just wanting to be sure the world gets saved after he's exiled. Must have hurt bad to see his friend be crushed by imposter syndrome and not be able to confirm to him that he really was the hero (and even that would have been cold comfort in the face of learning the truth about Mimilu's kidnapping and Doben committing suicide by throwing himself into a fight he couldn't win).

I like that Ed isn't inherently invincible.

He is a master fighter, no doubt about that, but he depends on his broken skills... not in a bad way, mind you, his case is more nuanced.

I mean that he has weaknesses, he has limitations, he is factually strong, but there are caveats he has to account for, this brings more weight to whatever may happen.

He sure as hell will use his skills if his comrades are in danger, but considering some of them come with drawbacks, he has to keep in mind how and when he uses them too.

Eh, he most likely held back.

Yeah, he did, he didnt use any of his exile skills.

And sure, we have seen how athletically good he is, but there is clearly a limit to even that when compared to an animalian natural physical prowess.

I am not saying Ed couldn't defeat Dorben under all circumstances, I am saying he has limits and a style of fighting.

Yeah, I think that aspect of realism is what is my draw for this an other isekai where the character have to make calculated decisions and isn't op to a broken extent.

Even when he fought that whole horde of demons and Alex, Tia & Gonz, the abilities he used would have killed him. He had to time it so we would finish right before dying to finish the army and then get pulled out from being exiled. He wouldn't just be able to do that no consequence whenever he wants.

Also, Ed being super empathetic from his journey through worlds is a great thing to see. He did save this one but at the cost of Waffles sense of self. Those regrets make the story way more engaging than, op Mc travels worlds with cute elf to flawlessly, w/o struggling to correct timelines

Thanks for the tl

I think its more than just that.
Waffles may not have been able to win the tournament in the original loop. He may not have been strong enough without Ed's interference like the 1st world's party wasnt after they ditched him to save his life.
If they hadnt they'd all have died and ed may not have made it to the 2nd world at all.
If it would all work out without him there'd be no point in the story.

This is speculation of course but I think whatever entity or god is behind all this probably intended ng+ to be the solution.

Dang. Doben is actually a hella chill guy. He was upset that a no-fur (or human) challenged him to a sacred Animalian Duevalaza (or Duel.) But knew that it would be unfair to use his fangs & claws, while already having the superior physique. It's also really cool that Ed honoured that decision by refusing to draw his sword (and use his exile skills) entirely, despite being a swordsman
