Did this scanlation group use MTL or something? The translation is a bit wonky in places. And who the eff names a character "Military"?

Was that letter in the first page "translated" and meant to be readable? Because it was absolutely in no way readable.
Or was it just the mangaka making pretend-european text, and then the jp text was the "translation" (actually original text) meant to be read?
