I loathe this cliche, its always some redacted OP secret skill, theres never any meaningful character development that leads them to learn to trust others again after massive betrayal its just oh hey new friends, and the consequences for the former party members too are equally shallow.
The plot begets itself and always struggles to find direction leading to the MC to almost always become as unappreciative and misguided as the former party, "wow all these things other people struggle with we conquered easily must suck to suck."
Its the kind of premise someone too pussy to write a proper revenge story would write, the only thing more passive than the MC is the author's backbone.
At this point I'd almost want to see the inverse, where the support party member quits due to feeling undervalued just for them to learn how much a struggle it really is without the former party, no matter what their secret ability is.
