I mean from my PoV she has always been sentient and sapient. She has free thought, and there is intentionally behind her actions. She has even shown emotions such as jealousy and the more recent embarrassment. Not to say those implies feelings of love and desire are not getting stronger, only that they had been there in some form all along.
