Yeah, realistically it's like a 6 if you just look at the art, and then bump it down to a 4 because of the writing.

Yeah, said it like 15 chapters ago that Athena is just a substitute a dead former companion, it even comes down to a strikingly similar appearance. So whether the author want to admit it or not, Daru's lingering romantic feelings for Alisha were transferred to Athena and stand to reason why he made nearly 0 effort to keep Est in the party. After all, why have romantic competition when you can make yourself seem altruistic when salvaging a new team.

I hated how the two party members, Dragon and Magician Girl, downplayed Est's party's involvement with how the Demon was killed. Sure, it was Daru who killed it, but just because a support doesn't do damage that doesn't mean they don't deserve some credit.

If Est's party didn't come to help then Daru couldn't have concentrated on killing the demon, so much disrespect is thrown Est's way even from the start of the manga.

Another thing that I keep reminded of when I read this manga. This was advertised as a story where we see the side of the banisher, but it hasn't been that way since a few chapters ago. Why advertise it like that when you just want to tell Daru's story?

Isn't that part of the reason why they kicked out Est to begin with? Dude was just buffing shit left and right but they were incapable (not really) of protecting the rear and expected him to protect himself as well. The word "support" doesn't exist in their pea sized brains.

Huh? They all kept protecting Est, before Est actually became an asskicker on his own, after getting removed from the group. That was the problem. Their team was too small for the others dedicate time solely for protecting Est, who couldn't fight on his own back then.

In this last demon fight, Daru couldn't have protected anyone if he also needed to defeat the demon. That's why Est and his companions evacuating Athena and the rest was needed.

This is a poor series as it is, but there's no need to force yourself to come up with artificial reasons to make it even worse.

The art quality matches the story quality. Below average.

Also it sucks that the manga seems to still be pushing the Daru x Athena thing when the original novel's ending made it clear he didn't love any girl other than his dead teanmate.

Just really goes to show how callous the party really is.

The feel good moments are just ruined when you realize that 3/4th's of the party did not grow at all emotionally or spiritually. Elf Magician is as much of a piece of trash as usual. The Dragon girl is still a muscle-headed moron, and Athena still doesn't give two fucks about how she treated Est, and is only happy he went through another awakening. An awakening due to grief and anger who still wanted to make amends to his old party, but found them trying to drunkenly copulate without any clarification to the reality.

Also while Daru "grew", he still didn't care enough to apologize to Est. In fact, only taking the scorn as some sort of redemption? Oh please, we aren't in that stage of anime trope anymore, that phased out in the early 2010's. At least try to apologize and if they still don't forgive, then you move on.

So the backstory is not a party wipe, just the one girl... not going to mention the whole issue with the mage protecting the swosdman, love and all that might be the reason after all

i´m actually expecting the author suddenly killing Est by now... Est was an artifact that the author lost control off, like the one sibling that survives from the crumbs of the golden child. By now I really want that the author to just send Est´s party away, it is clear that he will not have an apology from the party and the story is already way past him, why keep him then?... well, you can´t have an NTR without the cuck (50% joking, 50% serious)

I like the story. But I definitely feel it's shortcomings. And the art, although it's far from the worse, it's also far from the best. That demon was the most generic I've seen in my life. The author made all that plot about Est just to dissolve his grudge, now it almost seems like he is in the end game. Just send him away. And that whole "2 magic power" thing, if it's not a one time deal, it should be. Otherwise, plenty of adventurers out there should have that resource.
