He is the one who replace Ed in first loop after they banished him. He escape with all supplies and left them to die. It heavily hinted that demon spy, who they fight in mining town to test their freshly forged mithril weapons, is the same person.

Friggen finally! Did I really need three meandering chapters to build up to them meeting again? It was just too much annoying suspense/anticipation, leading to what we already know is going to happen - just so we can move the story forward.

I think it would have been better had we not followed Ed back to the white void, so that we remained on the heroes word, seeing all this play out, AND THEN finally having this meet up.

The manga really did a good job at showing what Tia went through. I hope that the LN is picked up by someone soon too.
