That makes sense and now I see that they pretty much said so back in chapter 7, page 21 where Mio still in spider form wants that in exchange for Tomoe getting a name first. I haven't read the novel yet, working through reading other completed novels first.

i dunno, imo the novel never really had a structured group of objectives. There's the hazy ever-present "kick the goddess down a few notches" thing but never more than that, the rest is basically always "put out the fire, try to stabilize, new fires sprout up, repeat," and of course Makoto becomes a little more skilled in something each time. Or a little more detached/sociopathic. Or both.
