this is the part that kinda bothers me, especially after the 3rd chapter (I think is where I left a relevant wall of text in the discussion forum).
It felt like it was being set up as "The Straight Man vs. the Extrovert", and did it reasonably well in the first chapter.
But the moment she dragged him out of the room and pushed him to going to the afterparty thing, it felt like the premise and the potential was immediately abandoned in favor of the generic tropes of "pushy FL overwrites the introvert ML's personality and he loses all agency for the rest of the story as he slowly falls for her, Generic Romcom Style".

And I still hope that's not the case, but he barely got a word in edge-wise this time, and it took having a third person there to even get her flustered over the "are you dating" question, and the ML didn't even react to it, just got dragged along by a fourth friend to the maid hunt thing.

I admit I really wanted two characters going at it in a banter of wits for as long as the author could make it work before introducing other characters and just deciding the Dominoes Boy needed to be veto'd on his life choices by the "Definitely Not Formulaic Cute Smart Active Extrovert FL", but I might just have to resign myself to what this clearly is set up to be and try to enjoy it as best I can.

It'd honestly be amazing if it never happened.

Have an actual platonic friendship between the ML & FL where he's just happy having a friend but doesn't develop romantic feelings for her. Just has his eyes opened to the world beyond the four walls of his club room, one maid hunt at a time.
considering the manga literally labels itself a rom com in the first chapter there’s no way they don’t get together.

Yep, I too can read.
It's just sadly an angle that I've not really seen explored between two mains in this sort of setting, at least all that often.
And in a sense, the setup would have been great for it - he's just always in the club room playing with his dominoes on his own, and she shows up each chapter to fire off some insane thesis or scenario, they banter, then she leaves at the end of the chapter with him reflecting about some allegory or metaphor found within the interaction and how it applies to life or the universe or whatever
Maybe one of them does like the other, but it never goes anywhere beyond strengthening friendship as they come to find the vibe is perfect as-is. Something like that, hypothetically.

Also it's largely because I had hoped he wouldn't fold to her pushiness by the 3rd chapter, given the concept at the start was "he gives as good as he gets with her" and they did a lot of verbal sparring/volleying only for that to almost be completely absent this quickly.
So it really just feels like......all the other "pushy extrovert FL reprograms timid introvert ML" stories out there at this point, which is a bit disappointing if I'm honest.

She just confessed she wouldn't hate Dating MC but MC didn't say shit..............

BROTHER........... :aquadrink:
"I can't let myself get the wrong idea. I'm sure she didn't mean it that way. When she said she wouldn't hate to date me I'm sure she just meant going places a good friends."

Edit: can -> can't, would -> wouldn't. That mistake completely reversed what I was trying to say, damn it.

What the actual fuck is this?? Was there actually an old 21 Jump Street I don't know about?

Only familiar with the Channing/Jonah/Ice Cube version
1987 to 1991 TV show.

AI says it launched Johnny Depp's career, unless it's hallucinating has it sometimes does.

21 Jump Street is an American police procedural drama television series created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell for the Fox Broadcasting Company, which aired from April 12, 1987, to April 27, 1991, spanning five seasons and 103 episodes. The series centers on a squad of youthful-looking undercover police officers who investigate crimes in schools, gangs, and other teenage environments, often tackling serious social issues such as drug abuse, homophobia, and child abuse. The show was originally titled Jump Street Chapel but was changed at Fox's request to avoid confusion with a religious program. It was one of the first major television series filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, helping establish the city as a major film production hub.

The series launched the career of Johnny Depp, who portrayed Officer Thomas "Tom" Hanson, Jr., gaining national recognition as a teen idol despite finding the fame irritating. Depp left after the fourth season, though he was credited in the first two episodes of the fifth season. Other main cast members included Holly Robinson Peete as Sergeant Judith "Judy" Hoffs, Peter DeLuise as Officer Douglas "Doug" Penhall, and Dustin Nguyen as Sergeant Harry Truman "H.T" Ioki/Vinh Van Tran. A spin-off series, Booker, featuring Richard Grieco as Detective Dennis Booker, aired for one season from 1989 to 1990.

A film adaptation titled 21 Jump Street was released on March 16, 2012, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as undercover officers who return to high school to infiltrate a synthetic drug ring. The film is set in the same universe as the original series and includes uncredited cameos from Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise, reprising their roles as Tom Hanson and Doug Penhall. The movie received positive reviews for its humor and chemistry between the leads, grossing $201 million worldwide. A sequel, 22 Jump Street, was released in 2014, and a female-led spin-off was in development, with casting confirmed in 2018 and the first draft completed in 2020.

The film adaptation was produced by Columbia Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Relativity Media, Original Film, and SJC Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It premiered at the SXSW festival on March 12, 2012, before its wide release in the United States four days later. The film's plot follows Schmidt and Jenko as they are assigned to Sagan High School to combat the spread of a synthetic drug called HFS ("Holy Fucking Shit"), leading to comedic and dramatic consequences as they navigate high school life and their deteriorating friendship. The film is available on streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
