Okay, I admit advantage wasn't the right phrase. "Taking for granted" was the phrase that came to mind.

He could've easily said his niece is missing, but he went straight to "Have you seen this elementary school girl who is also my wife?" That wording alone would've alerted the cops.

The coworker can represent any kind of 3rd party looking in on this situation, her being female and having romantic feelings involved just give a more simple motive for the meddling I'm 100% is coming. But point is, the dad is a little too emotionally attached to the wife, that he can only focus on trying to return to the past. Him screaming out "my wife an elementary schooler is missing" is just icing on top of this potential train wreck cake.

Him planning out to marry his wife again in 8 years like it's a done deal is just creepy. Him interpreting the situation to his advantage. You can tell by the way the wife is encouraging/enabling her daughter, that the dad also turned out this way from being spoiled like that by the wife.
