Thats one part that bothers me... Why does he has a profile?
I would assume he would kill only men of relatively old age (because of his father I guess). But men at their 20s and women at their 30s? Does that ages have any meaning?

No, he killed people that he could overpower and couldnt track to him since that was pre-digital age so all they had were a missing person case.

Plus we clearly seen at least a women as one of his victims, he simply picked on people that he picked up late at night without witnesses and apparently lived alone, their age and gender was not relevant ... only that those people wouldnt be traced back to him.

If you want a profile, there is Alexei Ivanov but in this case, he just did it out of convenience.

I just find it curious the people at the Tv mentioned the ages as if they were important in some way.
But guess its just like he said, he went after young men and barely older women as they wouldn't be able to defend themselves.
Funnily enough, wouldn't surprise me if the police belief that there was a profile was part of the reason that they couldn't find the culprit. They probably never thought on the chance the culprit was a taxist attacking random people (besides the lack of technology, I guess).

Well I think its more due to their habits, women in their 30's would be a common target because they likely lived alone and just gone out in the night were younger women would go in groups and older women would be much rarer and likely employed in that area ... similar older men would likely go in groups, not alone ... its simply a case of their profile (people alone late at night) have a overlap with their demographics.

Reading this chapter actually made me think about the killer in real life who hasn’t been caught yet. Have they ever felt guilty about their heinous actions? Or they just simply forgot it and moved on with their life?
"the"? I have to assume there's more than one.

What if he goes after chuuni... :meguuusad: but then maybe Spica could rescue him and he has to wrestle with knowing she's a killer (bad) and being saved by a killer (+his chuuni love for killers)

Just trying to tie chuuni back into the story lol

Arguing that a kids environment has no impact on what kind of person they grow up to become is so insanely silly you shouldnt even be acknowledged
No matter how horrible is your life, how miserably you were treated as a child and how many beatings you received, you don't need to perpetuate the cycle of oppression and violence. Everyone (but psychopaths, since their brains are different) can "heal". If you suffered abuse, you personally know how bad that is, so choosing to continue the abuse is entirely up to you, and you are even less deserving of sympathy when the abuse you cause is worse than the one you suffered, in this case, despair followed by a brutal murder

You know none of this is true
Bad kids growing up in bad environments is a tale as old as time
Personality is shaped by your enviroment
Nobody is that detached from reality that they can just look at themselves like a spreadsheet and fix all the wrongs
You dont just turn 20 and find inner peace

Can he even get film for his polaroid anymore? The magic is gone, buddy, it's just gone...
considering how long JP ppl used flip phones before moving on to smartphones there are probably places you can still get polaroids for (tho imagine if a 'modern day' serial killer got caught b/c of the pics they took being uploaded to the cloud or so lol)

I think you’re onto something here. There was the conversation that their family is still using an older phone model. I think this is an important point.

So I looked back at the panels about the phone and I realized there is so much emphasis on the phone cord (including his taxi responder cord) as well as the emphasis on the new cordless phone at the last panel.
My theory is that it’s not that the steering wheel that is the trigger for his urge (after all the urge started to disappear when he was still driving) but it is the cord that is the trigger for his urge and the urge disappeared because the time is changing and the phones have become wireless

Abuse victims become a serial murderer is a common trope that is based on reality but I think you made a good point that changes how I see the old man’s background in the story (other than the emphasis on phones)

Given this story current plot twists, I think the author will subvert common trope like that.

My theory is that his abuse story “my dad becomes violent behind steering wheel and therefore me too” is just some bullshit red herring and he actually just has a rope/strangulation fetish.

I do agree that the people from TV’s statement is important in some way but I think the profile of the victims are just red herring for the second statement.

I think the important part of is that all of the victims are strangulated and abandoned (not blunt trauma) and it makes me relook at the old man’s motive and modus operandi and concluded that he just had a strangulation/binding fetish.

If I didn't notice the part about it being close to the 21st century, I would've been mad that he was able to live a long life without getting caught. The change of phones over the years were also a sign of the times that I completely missed. Goes to show the attention in detail the author/artist duo put in. Thanks for the translations.
Yeah, I think with that level of details and the reference of it, I think the author might be doing it on purpose as an important hint.

After I looked back at the panels about the phone, I realized there is also emphasis on his taxi responder cord that looks like a phone cord.

With how all of the victims are strangulated, and the pictures of the victims mostly show the roped part of the victim (and why they are all naked), my theory is that the cord on his taxi radio is actual trigger for his urge and the urge disappeared because taxi responder also wireless.

I think the old man just has a sexual rope killing fetish. The steering wheel and his childhood abusr is just a bullshit excuse he used to justify it.

Also, at this point, it might spoil the twist of the very first arc, but i'm surprised the summary hasn't been 'updated' to just be more focused on Spica just showing up and things happening around her
(tho i guess the official site hasn't changed it either lol)
