We all know he's gonna end up with the middle child, why act like this?
I was thinking it'd be a lot more interesting to read a story about the girl(s) that didn't "get picked" in these kinds of stories. The depression they must go through after being strung along must be traumatizing.

There are multiple works that focus on such characters. This genre's been around for so long that every conceivable subversion has already been written.

Right? This is so painfully obvious. I don't care who he ends up with, I just wish it wouldn't be the middle child, but we all know how it's going to end...
There's a slim chance there'll be a harem ending, but I'll admit I don't think it's gonna happen.

Don't think I've seen one where it is the focus. Any recommendations?

Usually I'd only see such types as short side stories in otherwise long works.

I think the best one I've seen is between the Mafia girl and lecherous cop in Tokyo Crazy Paradise, which was a side story folded into the main one.

These are the ones I remember with conceptual focus on losing heroines that I can find right now:

https://mangadex.org/title/b214025c...g-heroine-the-bakeneko-chan-remains-undaunted

https://mangadex.org/title/3da96505-f8e8-49d5-8c26-fbe4786a897f/too-many-losing-heroines-comic

I remember some others but I can't remember their names. There are also tons more web novels and light novels with this kind of theme.

Thank you. I think the issue I'm having is that there isn't an easy tag to search for.
