hmmm, his plan was actually pretty good, especially considering that she's given every reason to doubt her methods won't just leave a trail of horribly mutilated human corpses and disappearances to investigate.

If you want to keep a secret, planting more innocuous secrets that are more plausible are a good way to throw people off. They'll typically stop once they think they figured it out. It's kinda like lying. It's best to typically be honest and tell them up front, even when you fucked up and will be punished. That way, when you do the REALLY horrible shit, they'll believe you when you say it wasn't you. You know, since you would tell them, right?
