Honestly impressive the trio of Marvelous Sunday, Sakura Laurel and Mayano Top Gun are all together when two of the three have yet to run debut races at this point in time. It's nice establishing these three well in advance before they make their marks.

This doesn't matter to anyone, but if you're curious... While there is no timeline for Umamusume and there can't be (for obvious reasons), this chapter takes place in the summer of 1994 (citing Narita Brian and Sakura Bakushin O). Marvelous Sunday and Mayano Top Gun will debut in February/March 1995. Obviously it's not going to be historically perfect but that's not the point at all. Shout out to the author because we're getting characters into the spotlight that aren't focused on at all.

Seen a couple comments asking about continuity and timeline related to Cinderella Gray. It doesn't take much to google the horses, but Cinderella Gray "takes place" from 1988-1992.

I always thought that (most) big manga and anime have a separate timeline set by PAWORKS anime.

Yeah I dropped Cinderella Gray once Inari One was introduced so my assumption was they were going to cover her entire story not just up to 1990. My bad

I don't doubt that anime/manga differ from anime in a number of important ways. I'm just curious what you're basing your take on, given that all the resources are positioning Cinderella this way. And why Starting Gate specifically? As far as I remember, it follows the old lore, which was rewritten after the anime's release (you also said earlier that each work is in its own timeline without any common universe). "They're wrong because they're stupid" doesn't really answer my question.

It kind of spoils everything Umamusume, although I'm sure everyone already knows the general gist of horse lore.
