Since this is Kodama Naoko and all, friend was in love with Mayumi and seduced her bf to separate them, lying about the pregnancy. She thought Mayumi would forgive her because friends and that she could put all the blame on the guy, then later on get Mayumi while she's still feeling depressed over the guy. At least that's my guess.
