Half sisters, living together with father’s family. Strained relationship gets pushed into ever more weirdness until they’re an item then they get outed and just own up to it and no one seems to do anything but strongly disapprove. And the whole thing is drowning in angst. I kept checking in every few chapters to see when it would stop being fekking weird and IT JUST PLAIN DIDN’T. It’s bad enough that cousins can legally marry in Japan, but this weird obsession with incest in general in Japanese culture is so weird and NOT ok. Any two Ashkenazi Jews are at least forth cousins because of cousins marrying for millennia and that’s why we’re just absolute genetic disasters. I have like five or six genetic disorders, some of which have me disabled. DON’T FUCK YOUR FAMILIES, people!!!
...I really got on my soapbox, there...

This is kind of trash, they made the main character a weak willed loser that can't stand up for herself solely to carry the mellow drama aspect. They also didn't forget to add the cliche misunderstanding subplot that could be resolved with a 10 second conversation to stretch it out even more.

...In which some great initial setup is quickly ruined by the author's proclivity to reach for "wronger and darker".

I couldn't get past ch. 4 when an ostensibly-sympathetic side-character starts sexually harassing her half-sister.

@Thrembs: I personally can't bear to read far enough to tell, but is it safe to say this is a major element of the plot? Would like to an add incest-tag, which seems to be conspicuously missing, if appropriate.

(Also, myself, I've always assumed Japan's obsession with incest is just because they have so many only-children to whom siblings are some sort of abstract concept that happens to other people. At least I hope that's the problem. XD One or two things of Chinese stuff threw me even further for a loop in how weird their perspective was until I connected the dots with, "oh yeah, it's China, and in the cities there's an entire generation that grew up with legally-enforced only-children, of course some of them have really weird ideas about what siblings are".)

Don't understand why people always get so confused by japans thing for incest themes in their media. It's like you people don't know that the rest of the world produces equal amounts of media with ""step""-incest as a theme. Have you guys been to pornhub recently? That site is full of that shit.

@pokari no, I didn’t meet too many only children, really.
If there’s any difference in statistics I couldn’t tell.
It’s not enough for the amount out there.

And yes, it needs that tag.
They are officially a couple. They’re out as a couple not long after. What the actual fuck...

@Thrembs:

Alright, tag added.

As for statistics—we're talking about Japan, not China, right?—Hmm... it is possible that I have misinterpreted data to reach that conclusion (extraordinarily declined birth rates as opposed to extraordinarily declined family sizes). I can find old articles talking about how extraordinarily few children per family Japan has, and so on and so forth, so, regrettably, that's probably where I got the notion. (And I personally didn't really get a grasp of who did or didn't have siblings while I was there, honestly.) While Japan has leaned towards small numbers of children in families (certainly when compared to the U.S.), it does seem to be at worst sharing the bottom rung of this stuff with a lot of other countries (like Germany and a bunch of others), so that indeed clearly can't be the full explanation.

I'd still like to think that it's mostly only-children, on either side of the oceans, that are actually into it though. XD If nothing else for that it helps me sleep better at night. Though there's that weird dynamic where people care less if it's gay. I'd like to say that's an informed opinion by half-intelligent people noting that, whatever else is wrong, at least the genetic convergence isn't an issue, which would be a reasoned, if questionable, stance—but I know my peers better than that XD It's almost definitely something more dumb.

But enough of this morbid topic anyway.

I mean, putting aside the absurd intensity of the drama here, the whole becoming a teacher in the countryside thing is kinda interesting. Like, it seems like she's teaching at a public school? If you're teaching at a public school, you either apply to a major city or the entire prefecture, which means you can't really select a specific part of the countryside, although I believe you can list preferences that might get taken into account. Public teaching jobs are pretty competitive and desirable though (since they're considered in the civil services sector) with pass rates being pretty bad in a lot of places. Was she a teacher before? Did she have a license before? You need a fair amount of preparation to be qualified to become a public school teacher in the first place.

@pokari I think that tag should be added as content, but not theme. While there is a small side story within this manga that deals with half-sisters in a relationship, it is not the main focus and it is not between the two main characters. So far I think it has only been seen in 2, maybe 3, chapters total and only 1 chapter focused on it.

@jwolfson:

Unfortunately, the tagging system does not have the kind of flexibility to support the particular change you're advocating for. There is no such thing as a "Content: Incest" tag.

Ugh.. I really don't want to have to read all of the incest bits in order to make my own judgement on relevance 😭

So I was reading this and the incest tag wasn't there earlier... I don't think it should be there. Why should it say 'Theme: Incest' when it's barely there, and it has nothing to do with the main characters. If anything, the theme here is entirely something else. That tag is very misleading for the future audience.

It is very borderline, but I think I would lean towards including the tag rather than excluding it.

It is a notable side plot that extends through enough of the manga (maybe 10%) to be a tag imo.

And I say this as somebody who really likes this series. Personally, I'm not normally bothered by incest in same sex couples (mother-daughter is weird enough of a dynamic to throw me off the manga usually though), as most of the 'ick' factor for me is removed if they don't have the potential to ruin their children.

And yeah, it being a 'theme' isn't remotely true, but that's a technical limitation, as somebody else pointed out.

This is pretty great - though I wish her friend was a bit more complex that simply being a possessive jealousy monster.

But I'm really curious why this has the ecchi tag. Does it get lewd later? It's rather chaste thus far.
