Unable to see which chapter I last read

I have followed multiple manga and I believe that I used to be able to see what chapter I last read by the eye icon. However none of the manga that I have read and follow have an eye icon by them. How can I find out where I last was on these manga? Tried to look around and couldn't find a readily apparent solution. Thank you for any advice you can give.

@Siegglory If you have a manga set to reading, it'll track it. It only tracks once you have the manga followed and you open a chapter.

is there a way to mark all the current chapters as read? Do I need to manually open each chapter of the manga to have it marked?

@vodspod For now, yes. Mass marking of read markers is on the list of things being worked on

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will make due until it is finished. I actually just learned about the read feature so it is not a big deal to read without it. I will only want to use it later when I have to take a break, so when I come back i know which manga have chapters available.

I guess this is the thread to ask instead of making a new one: In the Follows section, in the Recent Updates section the most recent chapter has an eye icon for whether or not you've read the new chapter, but on the overall manga list of all your follows there isn't any eye icon. Is this just not implemented right now or is there a different way to check?

I ask because while I keep up with some manga as updates come out (easy via recent updates), some of them I like to leave for a while and just come back to and catch up sporadically, and it'd be nice to see at a glance which manga I follow have a most recent unread chapter there as well (in case it hasn't updated in a few weeks so I don't see it on my recent updates). It was pretty easy to follow manga like that via the Kissmanga bookmark list, but I recently decided to port over.

Hi!

I'll also add to the questions.
I joined this website just yesterday due to one translator exclusively posting here.
I am not too familiar with the mechanics of the follows. Will I get notifications when a new chapter is released of a manga I set to "reading"?
Or will I have to check every manga manually to find out?

Thank you in advance for a quick reply!

@Salfaro I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly but, read icon supposedly only shows up if you follow the manga and read the chapter.

@Enc Notifications and such are already planned by mods iirc. For now you can see your follows latest update either from follow tab in the homepage or the follows page that you can access from navigation button in header top right.

Also here is a guide to mangadex from bocchi sensei https://mangadex.org/title/30461/bocchi-sensei-teach-me-mangadex

@Salfaro I'm guessing you're asking for the ability to determine whether you're caught up on some particular manga without necessarily going to its page to check, am I right? Kissmanga has the advantage of not caring enough to provide alternatives to each of their chapters, so determining reading progress is always unambiguous there. The same issue is somewhat more complicated in MangaDex, because we allow the same chapters to be posted by competing groups and even in different languages (not to mention the groups don't always number their chapters exactly the same) so determining exactly what counts as "caught up" isn't as clear cut. At any rate, the whole read marker system is getting an update sooner or later, so we'll probably revisit this issue then.

@Enc As 421cookies mentioned, the easiest way to check for recently followed manga is via the Follows page. Notifications are a requested feature, but frankly I'm still kind of wondering what kind of notifications are people actually asking for. I guess the easiest one to implement would be just a ( ! ) badge next to the Follows link whenever a new chapter is posted. If you're asking for a feed of notifications, that would be essentially the exact same thing as the Follows page anyway, right?

Thank you very much @teasday and @421cookies!
I enjoy this website a lot more than any of the previous ones I used so I am glad to hear you continuously work on improving it's features!

@421cookies I get that part at least, I'm just saying that the eye is only visible on the Recent Updates page and not your overall follows page, which would be nice.

@Teasday yeah that's it, essentially I just want to be able to be able to tell at a glance what I'm current on and what I'm not. I get that it's a bit more complex a situation on the overall follows page (since it's entries per-manga instead of entries per-chapter like in recent updates) so no solution would probably be 100% perfect, it'd just be nice to have something or other. Maybe just show a manga as "read" if the most recently uploaded chapter for the manga (in my profile-specified language) is marked as read? It would obviously become wonky if there's multiple groups scanlating a manga concurrently, but it'd be nice for most. If there's plans to update the read marker system anyway though, I'll just hold tight until then and see how that looks first.
