2. Clan member or no, the cousin still can't solve the problem of popping out a child, unless somebody wants to use the typical inner palace NTR. Not so sure how filial miss cousin gonna be but do you think the pissed off emperor would let that happen?

The mom is certain the empress will not bare a child because the issue is within the “emperor”, so won’t her plan backfire once the cousin marries “him” and the outsiders from the court notice she also can’t bare a child? Or does she seriously plan on getting the girl pregnant by a random dude just for the sake of her having power? It’s very likely.

But the current empress could do the same — much to us GL fans dislike, if the story really decided to dwell on this, the more sensible course of action from the “emperor” himself would be to convince “his” wife (that loves him so much and would not be ok with that) that she has to do it unless the whole court will know of “him” being “impotent” or blame her and separate the couple.

I do hope the “emperor” pulls some strings and adopts a young boy to be the successor, it’s not something uncommon, and it wouldn’t be frowned upon if it were a family member. A little cousin or something. The family will still hold the power.

Looks almost like a cliffhanger... is the empress going to insist on having sex with "him" despite "his impotence"?

The empress dowager wants to maintain the bloodline so having the cousin marry "him" would still work if they just got a 3rd party doner involved. And there are ways, cough, to keep the cousin in the dark about a switch-a-roo in the bedroom too. So complete secrecy and bloodlines intact.

The current empress consort isn't an approved bloodline and the emperor can't pass "his" on either. That's why the mom is so mad and can't work with the situation as it is. She already spent 20+ years doing this long con with her "son", perhaps under the nose of her own husband, so her being this mad about her own kid messing things up at the finish line makes sense for that kind of person. She hoodwinked everyone about the emperor for so long. All she needs is a boy grandchild with her bloodlines and things are back on track.

It's also interesting that the mom seems confused how the two are so close so quickly since apparently she wasn't even in the court until very recently. So I guess the mom didn't know about how they met as kids and the drowning rescue.

more likely, it's to make an in family baby and thus seize power from the current imperial family in it's entirety without anybody outside of their family knowing
