Reeaaally not feeling this one so far. I love a strong female protagonist but, I feel this story has squandered her potential. Having her randomly decide to be average in all things cause somehow that'd expose her? I'll let that slide for now I thought. Then we get to a point where she's forced to "power up" and... she gets manhandled. Like for real!?
I don't think the author knows why the lazy unmotivated protagonist type works in most cases. It works because when they do finally show their abilities they whoop the shit outta whoever it is. But, here we have the same situation and this guy just straight up grabs her sword like it's nothing. I hate to chalk this up to standard shoujo genre shenanigans where they make a fake action heroine who's strong side is a gimmick at best but, it's not looking good so far. Admittedly, it's only the 4th chapter but, it's rare I'm so displeased with a story so early on. We'll see I guess.

I still don't get why she has to act average? The chances of people discovering she is a girl won't change much if she is stronger and more popular? Also why does she have to act as a lazy knight? Also as all strong female main character in shoujos she cannot be stronger than the male character.. Even if he is not the main focus of the story. I'm tired of that crap. I had so much hope before reading this story but it crashed in just 4 chapters

maybe i'm not understanding something, but I thought the reason she's pretending to be average is to live a quiet life. should she show more of her potential and actual skills, she would probably need to join the higher-ranked knights (ie: imperial) who are probably assigned more tasks and are much busier.

4 chapters in, and the Male Lead turns cliche female protagonist, and the ML is absolute cliche garbage. I don't think I've ever felt such anger at a series for betraying my expectations in less than 5 chapters as much as this series.
I recommend you skip this series, its not worth your time. Well, unless you like something that basically turns 100% cliche. There is too much wasted potential in the first 4 chapters, especially when the ML shows up. Then it turns to trash almost immediately. If you can still like or stand the Male lead after he is introduced, then I applaud you for being more open minded and more apathetic than me.
Its nothing but a big disappointment. The bigger the expectations, the bigger the disappointment. I guess it's my fault for expecting so much from it.
There are other series with strong female leads out there that you should read instead. For example: Beware the Villainess (my favorite so far).

The art's nice. Has a good flow, too, though I personally don't like the "start from the middle/end of the story" approach. Makes the beginning seem like some super long prologue.
It has a pretty normal/standard start, story and character-wise.
As some have stated there are cliche's and some discrepancies...but yeesh we haven't even reached 10 chapters yet. How nice would it be if people could just chill out and have an ounce of patience for story and character development. I mean...it's a STORY for crying out loud. There is a beginning, a middle and an end. Possibly lots of middles lol. Crazy how people expect things to be masterpieces/totally different from the first chapter right to the end...

Why would you think she's already an empress? The story plainly says she's the daughter of a poor noble. Don't just read the title. Read the actual text in the panels...
The same with all those comments about her cross-dressing as a guy or pretending to be lazy/weak/average... It's fairly obvious from the story so far. Women aren't allowed to be knights, so she cross-dresses as a guy. Being average means she attracts less attention, and therefore less likely to be exposed as a woman.
Being a "badass female knight" would mean she'd have to reform society and public perception on gender roles... Changing the ingrained attitudes of an entire society is never easy. Not everyone cares to be a social justice warrior. The prince's offer in the description probably involves this...but it's too early to tell. Just wait for more chapters.

The ML really deters me. He probably had a good reason to kill his fiance, but I think his decision to kill the FL for being a witness was really off-putting . Also I prefer the imperial knight guy.
On a separate note, I never understood how characters fall in love with people who used to want to kill them, and acted on those instincts. It doesn't seem to be realistic....
