Rather than the "their lives may be bound by a red thread" in the description, it's more like one of them is a manipulative stalker who takes advantage of the other's naivete at every opportunity. It's pretty far from being romantic, and the characters don't have much more depth beyond that; I couldn't get more than halfway through before stopping reading.

It's a throwback to the bad old days of... actually, yeah, looking at it, it looks like this was indeed published in the 90's. I guess I should just be glad that he's not a psychopath in addition to being overtly manipulative. XD
