... Why is the hull of the spaceship so weak, as to be broken (like that) with only one blast? Were they relying on the forcefield too much? Don't they get exhausted in most stories though? Then there's also the on & off, to save power, and the like.

Bro they’re so advanced that they can thousands of people with ouch of button. Why the hell is this corporal guy even worried honor at this point. Secondly they literally gave royalty on board winning with dubious methods while outnumbered and keeping her alive is a lot better then dying while only taking one or two with them.
