It is hard to say what is "right" or "wrong", but I suppose the reaction really depends on the animal and the context.

In fictional animals, for those who have watched family guy, let's not forget Brian the dog and what happened to his mother. In humans, there are historical facts with cultures of practicing cannibalizing the dead as a tradition (lookup "Kuru (Disease))". In modern cases, we have human cremated remains used in potted plans (either as a long-last memorial), fertilizers, or even sold off as test-beds for effectiveness of modern weapons. What is the "right thing" to do with the remains of the dead? And who is to judge?

Personally, I find using the mother's fur absolutely abhorrent. But it is also plausible it is/was the most comforting feeling to touch for the said bear. But if said bear is sentient and recognizes it... well, be prepared to fight a bear I guess?
