In humans, there are historical facts with cultures of practicing cannibalizing the dead as a tradition (lookup "Kuru (Disease))". In modern cases, we have human cremated remains used in potted plans (either as a long-last memorial), fertilizers, or even sold off as test-beds for effectiveness of modern weapons. What is the "right thing" to do with the remains of the dead? And who is to judge?

Personally, I find using the mother's fur absolutely abhorrent. But it is also plausible it is/was the most comforting feeling to touch for the said bear. But if said bear is sentient and recognizes it... well, be prepared to fight a bear I guess?
