Would a processed pelt have any lingering smell from the animal? Could Kumatan even know his new bed is made of his mum?
If you smell sheepskin in Ikea it kinda smells like mutton lol

There is a smell depends on how they decide to process the pelt

This feels a bit weird. Sure, it's grim to let a child sleep on their mother's pelt but animals aren't materialistic so they don't care where it came from if the thing is actually a benefit to their survival.

Maybe this chapter is just playing to our human morals and provoke something for character development.

It's kinda weird (and morbid) by human standards, but I do think that it might actually be beneficial for animals. Even if you think about it logically like that, I still find it weird lol.

And I can't actually tell if this is the writer's tactic to distract us from complaining about Ziegline being useless lmao because it seems like it worked.

Peak chapter for me. All the core elements are heading (slowly) in the right direction.
I'm bumping this up from 8⭐ to 9⭐
Thanks for the hard work @gashadokai

It is hard to say what is "right" or "wrong", but I suppose the reaction really depends on the animal and the context.

In fictional animals, for those who have watched family guy, let's not forget Brian the dog and what happened to his mother. In humans, there are historical facts with cultures of practicing cannibalizing the dead as a tradition (lookup "Kuru (Disease))". In modern cases, we have human cremated remains used in potted plans (either as a long-last memorial), fertilizers, or even sold off as test-beds for effectiveness of modern weapons. What is the "right thing" to do with the remains of the dead? And who is to judge?
\
Rimworld is probably the only game I can think of that let's the player do all that (and let the pawns celebrate said actions), but I could never do a cannibal play-through myself.

Personally, I find using the mother's fur absolutely abhorrent. But it is also plausible it is/was the most comforting feeling to touch for the said bear. But if said bear is sentient and recognizes it... well, be prepared to fight a bear I guess?
Readin this on mothers day while I hug one of the few pieces of clothin my mom left me after she passed gives this chapter a whole another meanin...

It may still have her scent, it holds memories... Its somethin of hers that helps me through grief... Maybe for the bear it hits in the same way...
