I've always felt chapters like this laid the groundwork for a Kouki/Reina relationship. Not that the story could run long enough for them to grow up enough.

The saddest part of the time skip, apart from losing our lil Rin-chan, is the fact Daikichi for some reason is 40 and nothing happened with Nitani-san. But the fact Kouki is still unpleasant is quite annoying. Poor Rin.
Yeh, the time skip at this point doesnt seem to help the story at all... Guess the anime ended at the best part.
