So many problems I have with this current arc... The androgynous guy being super werid and flirty (if anyone talked to me and tried to interact with me like that it would make me super uncomfortable), boss lady saying something fairly normal and then he just goes "I have a girlfriend" which I first thought was a werid response until it turns out she was hitting on him?! gross. Also the author is also obviously setting this up to where the girlfriend will see this man flirting with her boyfriend and jump to conclusions and take 10 chapters to clear it up. I liked a lot of the previous chapters it was decent fluff but this arc is terrible.

What word was translated as "trap" at the start? Was it just otokonoko? If so, trap is not really the best term to go with (and it's considered a pretty problematic term in general).

Although seeing the rest of this comment section I'm not really sure why I'm bothering.

Want say cute but SHE is HE
Honestly, not sure.
In the LN, the author really put lots of effort to hint that the trap is really a girl who tries to hide the fact, and had a crush on Sandai. Like, he never want to change clothes in the same room as him.

Just finished binging all of this today. I love cute fluff and really appreciate how this didn't turn into a "when will they date"-kinda trope for once. Thanks as always for the great chapters, how you keep it up!

Listen Author San. If you want to flesh out your amazing sensei, cute trap, crime committing work senpai and gyaru squad.
You can always make short spin-offs about them finding their own happiness

Gosh how much I'd love to see a spin off of OreGairu about Shizuka san finding her happiness :"(

Within three chapters, I have gone from loving this work to thinking of dropping it.
It was doing so well, then it just got handed over to the cliché ghost writing department. Why are some people just incapable of writing post confession stories? It is not that hard, why do so many Japanese panic and drop the ball?
This started out a 9⭐, but is now slipped to 7⭐ and falling...

I glanced at first page, and thought it was the FMC. Saeki and FMC look way too similar. I won't fault our guy if he prefers Saeki over FMC.

I know that if I had his look I would not wear my hair like that (especially those long front whatever-you-call-them) or wear androgenous clothes unless I wanted to swing that way. (That hair is pretty damn feminine.) And I'd use "ore" as much as possible.

Thanks for the chapter, Setsu.

I'm not sure what you said but based on other peoples responses I probably whole heatedly agree with it. Based probably.
But anyway if this guy sticks around I'll more than likely drop this.

I agree with everything you said. You'd be surprised what you can get away with if you take the "right" positions--and what you'd get attacked by staff for if you've the corresponding opposite position.

The story's been going just fine without such a development. Now that it's present and proceeding as it is, I have no doubt that this character will turn out to actually be female, despite everything. This sort of scenario has been done to death in spite of there being absolutely nothing about it that makes it worth revisiting so frequently.

My later guesses about the author aside, I think it's caused either by conformism, personal fetishism, or both; for this reason, I wouldn't call it an action born of panic--not if the authors are fine with what they're making. Many authors will deteriorate their own stories just to force either an industry standard or the author's fetish into them.

One example is Mori Marimo's Risou no Kanojo: on his (not sure of this, as Marimo is a female name, but there's no indication of the author's sex anywhere I can find) Twitter account, he recently gave previews of new chapters--chapters in which he introduces a short-haired, angry-faced, flat-chested rival. The MC is strongly attracted to the FMC Sara--and the author spares no expense at depicting her as supremely beautiful (both according to his standards and in general), with his doujins' omake sections detailing Sara's physical characteristics as his favorites--but the rival is there anyway, as if she could somehow compete with Sara (or her sister Kou, for that matter). It doesn't make any sense, but mangaka all do this sort of thing, so I'm guessing Mori thought he'd do the same.

Another example is in Mishima Yomu's Mobuseka: there isn't anything in the story that causes the MC Leon to contravene his established character traits more than Marie--and indeed, the story seemingly warps to favor her. A "lolicon"--and even implicitly self-described as such in a recent omake of Seventh, recently--he has even made an entire LN spinoff for Marie.

In the end, if there are enough people feeding such authors validation through positive commentary (and, indeed, it seems most Japanese are culturally averse to expressing criticism) despite such poor writing, they will not see a reason to change course.

This author is either a homosexual or a fujoshi; I'm banking on the latter, as Koharu is a female name. It would not surprise me to be proven wrong, however, because the rationalization--out of fondness--of "traps" as something other than what they are is common among those with a certain other, massively prevalent fetish in the anime/manga/LN sphere of hobbies--and I've seen that connection for roughly nineteen years, now.

Speaking of, I wonder how many people here will still try to tell me that short hair and flat chests--key elements of androgyny--aren't masculine. There are those that get really mad when you say they are.
