Wait so Hachina is playing Xanatos chess all along, as long as they have the territory, Hachina could achive his main objective which is to find key information that would lead to Ideal.

I admit it, the author just played me like a fiddle. After last chapter, I really didn't see this result coming. And yet, I should have. It was established since the beginning through Kaji's words that losing wouldn't matter, if they gain control over the territory (that's why he wanted to call Marco). And now the situation is: Most crew members either beaten or locked up, Kuja with fishes and communicator in the room destroyed. I really should have realized it, yet thanks to the flow from last chapter, I was so sure that Gakuto is gonna win.

Well written and well played.

A lot of us were so caught with the game, we forgot the whole reason why Kakerou was called to start up a game. Now things have changed.

I'm gutted Oofuna lost. I was really hoping he'd become like a Kaji for Hachina, a new character that has good instincts and learns how to win high-stakes gambles and stand on his own eventually.

And yet he seems to be ok for now. We once again learn the biggest lesson from Usogui: winning a gamble means nothing if you can't enforce your victory and don't have the power to obtain what you want. The author has done a great job of stressing this point throughout the manga, really great thematic writing.

This guy just up and moved the damn screen at the last second?? That really feels like bullshit. Well, not that it mattered in the end, since Lacy is left unable to call for help and Voja's dead.

Looking back on it, the end result, win or lose, were always in favor of Kaji's side. A win meant they all left safely and Gakuto gets to arrest the ship's crew, and a loss meant that Kakerou would just leave without ensuring Lacy's safety. In truth, the biggest benefit was actually the fact that Hachina was given time to cause utter chaos on the ship while Lacy was stuck in a match. Kaji was a bit too fixated on getting Marco to ensure their safety in the event of a loss but, Hachina was basically better than Marco in this scenario, not that Kaji was even fully aware of the guy.

Those eyes are scary on page 17, I wonder if Gakuto can stop himself from killing Lacy long enough to arrest the guy.

@Rooster Same here! I was pretty surprised and disappointed that Gakuto didn't win, but in reality it really doesn't matter at all. Thankfully Hachina knows that, and obviously Gakuto knows how to defend himself since he works on dangerous cases for the government. The author lowered our guard regarding Gakuto in that regard because he almost got beaten up while staking out that place before, but they ganged up on him so it makes sense. Now Gakuto just has to defend himself until Hachina comes back, probably after sweeping up most of the workers. Easy. Exactly like @BossCrab said.

I'd like to think that Lacy at least stands a chance, but certainly not broken Lacy.

I certainly didn't give Oofuna enough credit in physical self defense though.

You know, I was gonna make a point of this around the start of the gamble, but I'm surprised Lacy didn't ask for more out of his earnings. After all, Kakerou is there to also ensure that the payout is achieved, so Lacy could've just asked for the lives of Oofuna & company. They would've been in a bad situation right now, seeing as how Oofuna just lost.

Welp, congratulations Lacy! You just "gracefully" pushed all of Gakuto's berserk buttons.

@saxifraga, i think that was intentional from the Author to show us how overconfident or trusting Lacy is to his crew and "territory", that he didn't even think the true purpose of the game and Kakerou are to exactly get rid of his superiority and advantages in said territory. Hence, he thought that requesting the other side's lives for winning is redundant.

That's a good point. Actually, I was kinda leaning on that sorta reasoning myself once I gave it some real thought. I mean, it does make sense for someone like Lacy to be undone by his own hubris. And to be fair, it's a bit of a running theme in this series too. So yeah, you're probably right.

It seems so obvious that oofuna won when lacy destroyed the communication now, Looking back on it. Oofuna was never introduced as a weak character body wise. Love it

@saxifraga Nope, the conditions for when Lacy won the match stated that Kakerou would not interfere with any of them, so even if Lacy complained, Kakerou wouldn't be obligated to help him: https://mangadex.org/chapter/672827/14

That's only because neither side demanded securing one another (or something similar). Again, my whole point was Lacy could've requested that Oofuna & co. offer their lives for this gamble as payment, and if Lacy won, then Oofuna wouldn't really be able to retaliate as Kakerou would ensure they'd all die per Lacy's call.

At the end of the day though I doubt Oofuna would've agreed with those terms, so it doesn't really matter.

I only initially brought this up because I always thought it was odd how Lacy was going to be walking away with notably less compared to Oofuna.

@saxifraga Sure, but like you said, Gakuto wouldn't have agreed to those terms, and more importantly, Lacy didn't feel like he needed it, he didn't expect Voja to get owned, his crew to be defeated, or Gakuto to come so close to win the game, for him to lose his mind, and to destroy the comms, so yeah.
