oooo, realized the truth after 40 chapters - on the scale of Clueless Romantic Main Female Characters, I think that rates a 3. Unfortunately for her, the male lead is either as dense or in active denial.
Also, hearing lies =/= hearing people's wishes - she's heard plenty of lies that are intended to conceal malice. Context matters.

Kanoko-chan can't lie to herself about her own feelings thanks to her ability. This saves a lot of trouble for the whole "In denial" cliche trope in shoujo lmao. On the other hand, I feel a lot for Ranko I hope she truly does find her own happiness by the end of this manga.

the way the Suzuran ship is so, so weakly affirmed is simultaneously admirable and pathetic

like they both confirm their feelings for each other to the reader (via the ‘non-lying panels’ on pg 30 + plus the heart panel on pg 31) but at the same time resulting in a purely het outcome anyways
