I read this ages ago while also waiting for updates lmao. Anyway, I agree with Ivx that drama-wise it's better than Aki Sora. In fact, despite the ending (that may be seen as abrupt/just for shock) and all the rollercoaster that is both fun and bad, I like how this manga actually takes that dark turn. Aki Sora never goes anywhere with that, only hints and Sora saying it inside his heart but soon forgetting it, so I appreciate this manga a lot for actually going down the dark path with the characters knowing full well how fucked up they are...and they swallow the consequences for their mistakes. The emotional part is pretty good.

Art-wise though, it went to be more stiff and "cubed" later on, imo. It went worse. Which is too bad, I like the previous art...

I don't really get the complaints about the ending? The problem is that he gets thrown in front of a train and dies? I felt it was a different thing to have the protagonist die at the end.

I don't get what would be bad about it; it's a very good story to me; I have the feeling it's simply poorly received because it features a lot of sex scenes.

That is why I think it's one of the best harem series ever, because it actually shows the problems therewith rather than the idealized phantasy; and even this is a bit surreal and idealized with how much the m.c. seems to continue to meet suitors, without really having done much to earn it, which is very common in the Harem genre, but at least it portrays the usual problems that arise from all these love triangles.

I also find all these nihilistic characters that just seek to have the world burn to be fascinating, because they're all human in their own different ways despite of it; on top of that, this author does know how to create interesting sex scenes that are all the more arousing due to the tense emotions.

Well yes, I finished re-reading it after having read it, years back; it is as good as remember. This author truly feels like a misunderstood genius to me.

We actually have a harem series that deals with the actual consequences of jealousy and infidelity, where each and every one of the characters in his harem is given his own complex backstory, personality traits and genuinely feels like the protagonist of his own story rather than just existing to be part of the harem and nothing more; rather than an endlessly going on "ship-tease" that never resolves the progression is constant with each chapter changing the dynamic and building towards a conclusion; the "main girl" actually makes sense in the context of the plot and it isn't just a case of just putting it there, and a harem on top of it. It has absolutely none of the commonly cited complaints about the harem genre with the sole exception that the protagonist is too average and lacks agency and too bit of a self-insert mayhap, but even there a lot of things clearly happen from the perspective of other characters.

But it turns out that apparently the clichés — however vilified they are — apparently exist for a reason and if all the wish-fulfillment be taken away, it's apparently not enjoyable any more because it's actually read for the interesting plot, rather than escapism from life.

Came back here after 2 years and I still hate this piece of garbage. IMO it’s so bad I don’t love it. But at least now I can see the appeal and why people do like this manga. If there’s a word to describe this author’s work, I guess it would be... “unexpected”. “Realistic”? Anyways the ending is just... fulfilling, the story paces smooth as hell and maybe if I wasn’t so stuck-up with my previous opinion I’d love this.

Well, it's been a while since I've seen school days- I watched the anime and my friend made me watch every single SD hq ending after I lost a bet, so I can't talk about shiny days or any other version of the story. If by good endings you mean the ones where makoto is alive then sure those too. Those are peak retarded. If you mean the gore fests, then definitely those. My most hated hq ending is when both kotonoha and sekai get pregnant. I'm rambling. Both are peak meme tier.
