His problem is that just like his older brother he(they) never bothered to see things from her side they only considered how they felt and just assumed that she was getting the same treatment as them and was therefore just acting like a spoiled brat every chance she got never bothering to think that there was ever a problem or that she wasn't the one at fault. The three of them (father and sons) just expected everything to be fine but often times in this situation people(especially the servants) will follow whatever example you set. So if they see she is disliked and ignored then their treatment of her will match that. Unfortunately in both of her lives her family never bothered to see this, but it's good because now they (the brothers) are starting to see it and realize it's not just her. But also the original Penelope was partly at fault she continued to use the same method that she had seen to be ineffective and only caused negative reactions. She wasn't helping herself. Alot was wrong. (Sorry for the rant)

Don't worry. Later
she soooo calls him out for that necklace event (the event where everyone thought she stole the 'actual daughter's' necklace) and she says that none of this is your concern until she leave this house for marriage, which also will be up to the older brother and the father, not that asshole. Uhhhh man the next chapter is so satisfying

She doesn't have many (or any really) options. She has no source of income, no one to rely on, no where to go, no idea of the outside world and no guarantee that running away would help her to escape ANY of her MANY death flags.

@ish131hxs About Emily
She won't be betraying Penelope, as she is now being blackmailed and eventually figures out that Penelope isn't the evil lady taking the position of someone else she thought she was and ends up genuinely regretting her actions and becoming actually loyal to Penelope and willing to do whatever she wants just to make up for the abuse.

I think she actually becomes more loyal to Penelope than the rest of the family, yes, really damn terrible start but unless they change things for the adaptation, Emily will be an actual ally of Penelope, but for now she is very much changing sides in order to not get screwed, the true loyalty and love for her mistress won't come till later.

I think it's more so that he always thought of Penelope being the ORIGIN of the proem every time. He always just considered her to have started it and never assumed otherwise. To him if there was a problem and she was anywhere near then it has to be who caused it. And that's kinda how everyone saw her but the bread incident was a rude awakening that maybe there's more to it than he knows. And yes he does care deeply about his family name and apart of his attitude is because of this but I think another part is because he's beginning to realize he doesn't truly understand Penelope like how he always thought he did.

I'm so happy that this manhwa shows a character who actually shows empathy for the person she replaced.

I wouldn't even stay here now that she's got her free choice on, since the Duke let's her buy whatever I'd just keep the money and leave right before the real sister shows up

Ooo. when I read it in the novel, I thought the needle was like a stick you used to make a bun which made me feel like stabbing into someone even more brutal since that could've really pierced a lot more. Good thing it really was just a needle. Still painful, but it feels better somehow :p

Oh, so now she's a member of the family, arrogant bastard?

I'm a bit puzzled on what his deal is, but the fact remains that he's an asshole and always treated her like an outsider, so there's no need to show him any courtesy beyond survival.
