This hurts, not only due to the usual tragedy of the village being burned down, but also for the potential of progress turned into ashes for no good reason. That girl could have become the engineer of the century, but instead became a bitter hunter living in the woods.

Imagine finding out that the Library of Alexandria wasn't actually burned in one go, and that instead if slowly degenerated over a century between intellectuals being chased out, lack of funding and upkeep and that one fire at a storage warehouse.

Author went a bit too far with Hild's inventions but... that is a question that was asked many times before. How many geniuses had an early and unnatural death or never had the opportunity to make uses of their talents?

@Panino “Author went a bit too far with Hilds inventions”? I don’t think so. She lives in a village where they need more effective access for chopping wood, and cutting objects. You easily think of solutions for issues around your environment, the inventing is the hard part. Someone who is able to create books, printing press and libraries are much more intuitive inventions for the time, she’s just able to make work for carpenters more efficient.
