I remember the first time i read this i blamed thorfinn but its really not his fault hes just a kid if his father had explained to him how he felt about being a warrior he might not have gone on the boat and been taken hostage, not to say its the dads fault either because if hed known from the start that floki planned it he might not have gone so easy on them, as for askeladd it is his fault but its also his job so isnt it normal that he carries it out, if he didnt do it he might not be able to survive its not really any different from the war thors planned to be in, its like hexsaid everyonevisxa slave to something, anyway thats just how i feel, this probably just sounds pompous and try hard

@10101101010 Thors had a death wish. He wanted redemption for his previous life. He left thinking he would never come back, asking his wife to raise his son for him. Of course, he didn't expect his son to tag along and got involved. I always love how idealistic Makoto's story is but never avert its eyes from reality. A simple comparison to a similarly themed but on the complete opposite spectrum, Kingdom, really show Makoto magic. Kingdom bragged about its idealism in speeches instead of characters actions and decisions. It's hilarious how it puts Qin Shi Huang legalism forefront, narrating about how the governmental idea is about equality and justice for the oppressed common man in the age of strife while depicting thousands of nameless, same faces mooks being cut down by the central cast. In Vinland, you can see in every frame, the nameless mook received their share of work, everyone looks unique. That's how art can tell the story.

Thors was going to commit suicide by going on this journey and he did it nonetheless because he knew that he can't avert the destruction of his village but still what makes his sure that they will not attack it now? the war?
Thorfinn needed some lessons from his father.

My heart...... this is such masterful storytelling with beautiful art. Rereading this, the heartache is very real.
