yea. to be fair tho: the dance union seems to do a lot of more traditional contests.
this competition is specifically titled as somethign experimental, trying to pull in a new generation that may not be able to flourish in the traditional, already existing, structures.
and yea its corporate. its basically big corporations trying to catch the lightning of social media virality in a bottle.
they want future social media stars.
Exactly, but I will say... the fact that whoever chose these guys to be judges, chose Assay-san too, at least shows some commitment to at least some artistic demand in the judging.
If we put it in perspective that one other competition that appeared in the story where one of the judges was just a sponsor without any knowledge(or even appreciation) about/for dance or art(he probably was there only for brownie points because he was a sponsor), the fact that all three here ARE, in fact, artists in their own right is something.
As I said... what they said is not wrong, it is, in fact, a valid way of looking at and evaluating. The problem is that it is a judging ideology that corporate thinking can easily latch on to and completely forget the finer details that would be needed to temper it.
