I was bracing myself expecting for rin to just suggest that they turn poly and for kurohime to just accept and for the story to turn generic. But oh shit did I severely underestimate Mochi's writing cause somehow, I absolutely did not see that coming. Todo's recent growth just made me forget just how much of a scumbag she can be, and there could not have been a better time to bring that personality back. Legendary chapter.

I was right to pin my hopes on Rin last chapter and she wildly exceeded my expectations.

I shouldn't have expected anything less from Mochi, but the character writing between the three of them was so good here. Like I was little worried at the beginning that it would follow the cartoon logic of a lot of harem trash but no we got a real conversation between people with different needs and wants unsure of where to go next.

That happens when the author rushes to give Todou a girlfriend so early in the story. The girlfriend in question is forced to do and say things that she would not normally do and that are contrary to her nature. For Rin's fans, it might have been a victory at the time, but now they have to watch their favorite character be reduced to a mere NPC because the author found something better or more interesting for the FMC.

Welp, The manga isn't finished yet, and the total number of chapters and the moment they become a couple, place that moment, you can say, early in the story. For one reason, couples are defined at the end and not at the beginning, especially in works with multiple heroines. That gap will continue to widen as more chapters are released.
In any case, you can find the consequences of such a hasty decision in this last chapter and the way her relationship with Todou is shown currently.

Oh yes I do, and if we're nitpicking things, I guess we're just going to forget about the Rin that goes out of her way to help the girls train for the dodgeball tournament or even help the girls in the cops and robbers.

Indeed! After this chapter was released, I went back to see their first chapters on Mangadex, and I just happen to see that their chapters were just next to each other, and the love potion didn’t even affect them that much because their developments were happening despite of it!
What a coincidence, perhaps they were destined to rise above the numerous NPCs to become Itsumi’s best wives!

Nah, it wasn't too early for two reasons. First, they don't have complete control over the length of the manga, so they didn't know for sure that it would still be going on 3 years later. and that chapter 29 could be considered early. Second, Itsumi's relationship with Rin is a big part of what enabled her growth in the last two arcs because she finally has secure love that her family wasn't providing. Itsumi would not be the same person without this relationship.

The girlfriend in question is forced to do and say things that she would not normally do and that are contrary to her nature.

The wording is important. Itsumi didn't say she turned down Kurohime because she loves Rin more but because she was already dating Rin. Saying it the way she did leaves room for doubt even if Itsumi didn't mean it that way. And Rin needs to crush those doubts even if the process of doing so is against her best interests.
Rin has done this before as seen in chapter 25 page 5. Itsumi was being wishy-washy about why she invited Rin over to spend the night and gave the impression who she picked wasn't that important. Rin was willing to go home and have Itsumi invite another girl to spend the night in her place and only stayed once Itsumi admitted she wanted to see Rin. Leaving over something like that to let someone spend the night their crush is not something most people would do since it is not in their best interest to let another person get close like that. Yet Rin was willing to do this. Rin is not perfect, as much as she is for Itsumi, and this self-sabotaging is one of them. So this is inline with her nature.
