It's something quite common in sports. Could just be a strong sense of loyalty, belief in their potential and wanting to see the underdog snatch a victory. Or simply just thirsty/obsessed for the players in the team which I'm sure komi-wotsit is considering she remembers even their car's license plate number...

Talking about komi, i'm pretty sure i've heard that nickname "komi wotsit" elsewhere, but i don't remember where and i can't find it on google which means it's not used by the people on watamote subreddit

I forgot the exact chapter here (Mangadex), but Tomoko called her that once or twice. I just thought it sounded funny and decided to add it to my komi-whatever arsenal of nicknames
