I'll share Summary Light Novel Volume 1 here, WARNING : Please Don't Click if you Hate Spoiler.
Point:
Kouta and Sakura are childhood friends who dated for a bit but ended up splitting since they just couldn't really feel that romantic spark for each other. Even so, they stayed just as close as before.
Things change though when Sakura wins a novel award. That's when Kouta starts feeling weird emotions like anxiety and jealousy toward her. On top of that, hanging out with his junior, Ui, makes him start questioning himself too.
This story's about feelings that are hard to say out loud because the relationship's just too close, plus the confusion of dealing with life changes. It's Kouta and Sakura's journey toward a new kind of relationship, one that's more than just childhood friends.
Characters:
MC: Miyamachi Kouta
Heroine 1: Houzenji Sakura
Heroine 2: Asama Ui
In class one morning, Kouta suddenly gets smacked on the head by his childhood friend, Houzenji Sakura. Turns out it's because he left for school without waiting for her. He'd actually tried waking her up, but since she wouldn't get up, he just went ahead on his own.
They've been like this forever, honestly. Pretty much the whole school thinks they're dating. Kouta's explained a bunch of times that they're just childhood friends, but nobody buys it. They're just way too close and act way too lovey-dovey for anyone to believe otherwise.
During gym class, the boys and girls get split up. The girls play volleyball in the gym while the guys play soccer on the field. Hearing all the noise from inside, the guys get curious and go check it out.
Everyone's amazed watching Sakura play. She's not just great at sports, her grades are solid too, plus she's pretty, so she's super popular at school.
But the mood suddenly shifts when there's a panicked shout, Sakura's twisted her ankle playing. Without hesitation, Kouta runs straight to her to check on her, then carries her to the nurse's office.
Because of that, they're back to being the talk of the class for being way too close again.
Kouta often helps Sakura with student council stuff. Every lunch break, they head to the library to drop off new books. While Sakura's busy chatting with the librarian, Kouta spends the time alone reading.
There, he sees a girl struggling to return a book, so he helps her out. She seems interested in his hair color since it's different from most people, and even asks to touch it. Kouta lets her.
But then Sakura suddenly shows up and calls him out for supposedly flirting with another girl. The girl immediately takes off once she sees Sakura.
Kouta explains he wasn't flirting with anyone. He's actually annoyed at how Sakura's overreacting. Sakura snaps back, reminding him that he was the one who gave her his "first time."
Yeah, turns out they actually dated before.
Back then, since their friends kept teasing them about being close, Sakura suggested they try dating for real. They did all the usual couple stuff, going on dates, holding hands, spending time together.
But nothing ever felt different to Kouta. Even after they kissed and got more physical, he still couldn't see Sakura as anything more than his childhood friend.
So when they moved up to their second year of high school, they decided to break up. Even so, nothing really changed between them. They stayed just as close as always.
One day after watching a movie, Kouta and Sakura are hanging out as usual, grabbing lunch and shopping for clothes. While Kouta's in line for tickets, some random guy tries to force himself on Sakura. Kouta notices right away, pulls her into a hug, and chases the guy off.
On the way home, they happen to spot their junior who's been getting a lot of attention lately, Asama Ui. She's seen walking with some middle-aged guy near a love hotel area.
The next day, drama breaks out at school. Ui gets surrounded by a bunch of girls accusing her of flirting with their boyfriends. They even call her a homewrecker and worse. But Ui just stays quiet and ignores all the accusations with a cold expression.
During break, Kouta and Sakura see someone dump water on Ui. As a student council member, Sakura tries asking what's going on. Even a teacher tries too, but Ui still won't say anything.
That's when Kouta starts noticing something off about the look in Ui's eyes, and he asks Sakura to just watch the situation for now instead of pushing.
So they start digging deeper to find out the truth behind the rumors about Ui. That same day after school, a police patrol car shows up at school.
Turns out Ui had reported being bullied. Her uniform got torn and her stuff got stolen. Since she's not great at talking and has no friends, she ended up calling emergency services.
Ever since then, the other students got scared to even get near her. But honestly, Ui actually wants to change from being closed-off to more social. Even her look before starting high school was totally different, enough to shock Kouta and Sakura.
One day while doing student council work, Kouta and Sakura hear a voice coming from an empty classroom. Turns out it's Ui practicing her voice.
She's a voice actress prepping for an audition for a lead role. Her voice is so good that Kouta compliments her, making her face turn red.
Sakura suggests Kouta help Ui practice, and he agrees. Besides voice training, Ui also works on her speaking skills so she can socialize better with others. Slowly, she starts being able to interact with her classmates.
Turns out the rumor about the middle-aged guy was wrong too, he's actually her manager.
Meanwhile, Sakura reveals she's been writing a novel and even won an award for it. She's set to meet with an editor to talk about possibly getting it published.
Hearing that, Kouta starts feeling like Sakura's moving forward without him. He realizes there's a whole side of her he doesn't fully know yet.
When she heads to Tokyo to meet the editor, Sakura shows up looking more grown-up with makeup on. The change makes Kouta's heart race. He feels anxious knowing she's going somewhere far without him.
Meanwhile, Kouta also leaves the house that day since Sakura had hidden her real reason from her parents, telling them she was going out with Kouta instead.
While waiting around, Kouta runs into Ui and tags along to help her check out the audition venue. After that, he goes to pick up Sakura at the Shinkansen station.
The moment they meet, Sakura bursts into tears in his arms. The editor told her the novel needs a lot of changes, especially the part that matters most to her, the protagonist's backstory that's inspired by her and Kouta.
Kouta just stays quiet, not knowing what to say.
But after they part ways, Kouta actually feels relieved that Sakura failed. He ends up hating himself for not being able to accept her success.
Over the break, Sakura shuts herself in her room. Once school starts back up, she looks exhausted, and the lunches she usually makes for Kouta get noticeably simpler.
A fight breaks out. Kouta wants to help, but Sakura refuses. Even when he pushes, she finally snaps and yells at him for not understanding how much the novel means to her.
Turns out Sakura started writing because of Kouta. Back in the day, he once complimented her writing, and ever since then she wanted to become a writer just so she could stay by his side.
Meanwhile, Ui fails her audition since the result had already been rigged from the start. She feels down about not being able to show her best to Kouta.
Kouta comforts her and tells her he likes her voice. Ui then admits she wants to become a voice actress so that someone who once saved her can hear her voice.
Turns out that someone is Kouta, even though he doesn't even remember it.
Finally, Kouta decides to make things right with Sakura. On his way home, he finds her sitting alone without her bag.
After initially refusing, Sakura finally opens up once Kouta says he wants to be involved with her novel.
She reveals that her dad's against her dream of becoming a writer, because of money issues and her dropping grades.
So Kouta goes to meet Sakura's dad and explains everything. He promises to help keep her on track with her studies, and even says he wants to go to the same college as her and become a novel editor.
Hearing his determination, Sakura's dad finally gives his blessing.
The next day, both families sit down to talk about their relationship. Everyone jokes around since Kouta's statement sounded basically like a marriage proposal.
Sakura thanks him and, without thinking, kisses him on the cheek. Kouta's shocked, but this time his heart's pounding for real.
For the first time, he starts seeing Sakura as more than just a childhood friend.
Sakura then teases him, reminding him that they've already shared way more than just a kiss before.
