"Practically every warlord back then was gay". Wait, sorry, WHAT? Don't remember them covering that in Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Bassara! And to think people say Japan isn't "progressive" enough.

I thought she was just exaggerating about the warlords in the Sengoku period but it turns out that it's actually 100% true. There's a "love pact" signed by Takeda Shingen and one of his male lovers is in Tokyo University's Historical Archive. Oda Nobunaga and Mori Ranmaru were supposedly lovers. :)

But that wouldn't have been considered "gay" since those warlords had wives and concubines.

I read in a different manga, "Don't Become and Otaku, Shinozaki-san!" that the reason for that comment by Kuroko (and the mentions of it in said other manga) is that the Warring States period is a popular topic for depiction in yaoi games and doujinshi and whatnot. I don't know anything about the history behind it though.

They cared a hell of a lot about lineage and stuff back then. Even if they were 100% gay, they can't make heirs by plowing another man's field. Just imagine your real lover while you do your wife, let her pop out a son or three, and then leave her to rot during the sexual prime of her life because you're all set already, so fuck her (figuratively this time). She'll probably just have a sneaky fling or two herself with the servants I suppose.
