I kinda can't decide. Did she really break his heart? Or did he read to much into older girl being overly physical/cutesy around a younger brother of her friend possibly cause she herself doesn't have a brother? He basically never really spoke with her beyond some minimum communication IIRC, cooked this idea of them being potential couple, and didn't bother to get to know her at all, cause then he would probably knew she had a boyfriend, who upgraded to a fiance and then to a husband - at which point our dude finally found out that his dream/idea was only in his head.

He just had a crush on her and naively though she was reciprocating on his feelings for the way she treats him... The trauma comes when out of nowhere she's getting married. Obviously she had her private life that didn't openly share so he didn't never knew about her having a boyfriend or being engaged.

I... Sympathies with the MC because that also happened to me when I was a teenager... There was this hot girl that was in college that it was very friendly and kind with me... And I got a crush on her... And I got heartbroken when I discovered she had a boyfriend... Thankfully I just move on with my life, and think about that moment as experience and one of my many mistakes in my teenager years.
