That lost potential of who they could be, what they could've become, what they would've said to you...what they loved and hated..
God this author knows how to pinch you right in the gut with it.
In some ways this series feels like the inverted perspective of a series like Ikoku Nikki, which is an absurdly beautiful, tender, thoughtful and devastating story of a 15 yo girl witnessing the deaths of both of her parents, to them being adopted by her author aunt she never knew who hated her mother.
And the acknowledgement that her wounds are her own, and we live and die, in our internal worlds alone, but it doesn't mean we have to BE alone.
She had similar thoughts to Mio, of this tangled web of who they were intersecting into who she was, if she would be the same as her parents, if her dad'sack of interest in the world would carry down into her. Though she had the upside of much much more loving support in her life in comparison to Mio.
Mio, like I still I need to read the rest of this story, but I'm grateful to the author for giving her someone who is kind in their support of her. Even when he's telling her what she can't face on her own, even when he's physically stopping her from going through with the worst outcome possible.
He's kind and thoughtful in the ways a grieving person needs, and importantly he's treating her respectfully and, though I didn't see the way her husband treated her, it seems that respect in a relationship with another adult has been absent from her life for a very long time.
Thank you for the tl, I really enjoy reading your thoughts at the end.
