Love this chapter. I'm a big fan of Kanoko and Sumika. Relationships that go through some turmoil and come out positively in the end are so nice to read. Kanoko has definitely fallen for Sumika, even if she is a bit coy about it right now (in a friendly, teasing way).
Honestly, she's sending some big hints Sumika's way. I hesitate to call this chapter's events "hints" because of how straightforward it was. Seems like it'll be up to Sumika to stand up for her feelings and not "give Kanoko" away.
It really doesn't look like Kanoko intends for anything with Hime anymore. Kanoko's admitting her feelings for Sumika to Hime right after promising to tell Hime her secrets is making me confident that what she plans to say to Hime is no longer a love confession. She's moved on to Sumika now, so much so, she's willing to confess her feelings for Sumika to Hime's face. Now it's likely about closure and finally getting it off her chest.
Same. I understand some people are burnt out on this arc but Kanoko has become my favorite character. She's one of the most grounded depictions of a teenager, struggling with new emotions and their budding sexuality, I've seen depicted in a manga in ever. And if you pay attention her development has done a great job of avoiding the obvious tropes she was set up for, and instead gave her realistic development.
Kanoko had her fixation at the start, seeming to be set up for a yandere antagonist role, but it never manifested much beyond just grumbling to a friend who told her she'd listen. And when she had the chance to have Hime to herself again, she instead tried to rally the cafe and Yano into convincing Hime to save. Knowingly saving Hime and Yano's relationship. Also, she failed to read Sumika's changing feelings correctly until after she took Yano's advice, because realistically a 15/16 year old wouldn't understand romantic feelings
that well. But then when it does hit her she's extremely repentant, to the point it actually throws off the power dynamic with her girlfriend because Kanoko will do literally ANYTHING Sumika asks of her, including giving up her body, especially if it hurts her(Kanoko's) self.
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the breakup at first, and I still hope they don't wait until the finale to get together together. But it's reassuring seeing Sumikano basically confirmed as endgame. Looks like this break will be good for resetting the power dynamic and giving them a healthier start next time. Already in this chapter we see Kanoko and Sumika's communication is the most open and accepting in the series now.
As for how things will end with Hime. If Kanoko does "confess" I don't see it being a normal "will you go out with me" confession, but more of an apologetic "these were the feelings I had and I'm sorry for hiding them". It's not like Kanoko ever believed a relationship with Hime was possible, and any fantasy of unrequited devotion seems to be gone. All Kanoko needs now is closure on that era of her life. Some feelings may linger until then, the heart isn't logical after all, but she's clearly not interesting in holding onto them anymore. She's even openly accepted her own feelings for Sumiko.
