okay so my theory is that someone impersonated him
i mean the way he talks about the past life feels like he failed to protect her from an exterior threat (the prince just talked about having openings that would put mc in danger and assassins were sent to her so it wouldnt be too far fetched)

OR he was drugged or whatevs and so he wasnt in his right state of mind when he killed her

OR he went full yandere and killed her before unaliving himself for whatever reason? like maybe he heard that some guy touched her (in an R18 manner i mean) and since she wasnt his and his only anymore, he prefered to kill her himself (and proceeded to kill himself afterward cuz he cant live without her)

if i remember well, mc is already living her third life (she was japanese before wasnt she?) so there might be more past lives (like with Athy or idk)
