This would make a lot of sense, making her smell "delicious" but taste like a mermaid (bad?) as a side-effect might suck but at least its better than dying

I already guessed that Shiori was the one who saved Hinako back then from car accident. there are several clues: 1). at very earliest chapters, Shiori said that she was "looking for Hinako", why is she searching specifically for her? 2). at previous chapter, it's revealed that after accident, none of the doctors sure how Hinako could survived despite of those severe injuries, and then 3). in this chapter, Ayame said that "that mermaid gives you her blood", just connect those clues together......although I'm not sure why Shiori did that. is that so Hinako will truly believe Shiori in order to fully enjoy her body?

Okay so I feel like my earlier assumption that MC is turning into a spirit/monster is correct and she's turning into a mermaid due to the blood Shiori gave her which is why the smell is getting stronger every year. Also most likely Shiori was the one who said "At least you have to live Hinako" (or something along those lines) before she crawled off the cliff during the accident.
Shiori probably just eats horrible criminals I assume, not just anyone.
EDIT: "An old Japanese belief was that eating the flesh of a ningyo could grant immortality." Yh seems like I was right, if she's not turning into a full ningyo due to the blood then she's gonna end up somewhere in between Human and Ningyo with eternal youth.
EDIT 2: Also... I think imma hear out GreenOstriches, Shiori's true form kinda...

Wait do all people that turn into monsters first die and then get saved by a monster's blood?... maybe that woman was saved by miko. And yeah then maybe Hinako is already a monster... they even smell the same...
