think the author's other work was more or less the same concept but darker/edgier b/c there was some rape scenes and one of the 'girls' who transformed self-harmed/tried to cut off their own breasts
Well, if this gender bender has some serious reason, then most likely the first chapter contained some hints about what could influence it. For example, I remember one old BL manga where a guy magically becomes a girl as an aid to pursue his male crush.

I hope this manga doesn't become misinformation!! it's certainly heading that way pretty rapidly!!! Just get her on puberty blockers so she can think without the ticking time bomb of her hormones looming over her!!!!!!!
If this manga jumps into the theme of teenage gender transition, then given the times we live in, the comments will quickly become a Chernobyl reactor.

Makes me wonder if the author will end up having 'alternate/multiple' endings like the gender of mona lisa did (although it does make me wonder if there would be some NB charas or 'intersex' charas where having the 'disorder' happening to them would actually benefit them more)

Tbf there actually /are/ trans manga without any 'supernatural' elements to it , but other than doing proper research or 'easing into' it as advice, i would hope ppl wouldn't use manga as an 'educational' reference (like shoujo manga with a 'kabedon'; if it's not done as a joke or by a close friend ur gonna get slapped/kneed in the crotch if you do that lol)

I want to add people complaining about the manga being "transphobic" are ridiculous.
They just dislike to be faced with the truth about their bad life choice that they will definitely regret sooner or later. :)
From what I can tell people care more about whether or not the mangaka did their research, cause there’s a ton of flags going in both directions. Definitely the most positive flags I’ve seen in a gender bender manga that isn’t explicitly written by a trans person, we’ve got a Blahaj for Pete’s sake. They’re really toeing the line between informed and not informed as far as current views and understandings of trans people/trans rep. Hoping for the best 👍

Anyway, ignoring that weirdo above us, I don't think this manga's handing out any sort of misinformation, as far as I can tell from what friends have told me this is somewhat the thought process a lot of trans women end up going through on their quest to transitioning. I'm sure to Rinko, who's had a penis for like a month or something, isn't quite keen on the vague conclusion of "cutting it off" that she made from the video. All we can do is support this girl goddamn 😭

It’s either something the author knows about and the characters just don’t yet (and will discover in a later chapter) or the author is just ignorant which would suck and I really hope isn’t true. :korone:

I'm diggin this barely an allegory. Give some credit to how a lot of sex characteristics aren't big until puberty, so Rinko's mindset would be very close to someone assigned male at birth who had been living in a very feminine way, then puberty hits hard. Until puberty, whether they thought about it or not, their body may not have enough changes to trigger confusion or dysphoria. I don't think the manga is misinformed on that count, I think it's a good way to simplify the confusion without getting biographical or autobiographical. The only faux pas is it's barely touched on medications.

I think that to not detract from the plot, Rinko will do some sort of medical transition. But so far they could just as well be a feminine guy who doesn't like puberty, but doesn't want to live as a girl socially even in an ideal situation.
This girl needs to learn about nonbinary people. And start estrogen.
At the moment I think that would be the most interesting direction. Or Rinko could choose not to have surgery, or a different GRS surgery. The mom is uncompromising, and especially Japan's historical approach to trans people was focused on surgery.

Until last year, the law for changing your gender marker in Japan required having a sterilization surgery (edit "unconstitutional" but little change because court shenanigans as with same-sex marriage), which includes a lot of bottom surgery. This is strict, but you could link this first to not wanting trans people to have offspring, but secondly and more understandably the expecation that trans people blend into naked social spaces like a bath house (even if you're passing it's probably a legal risk). I'm sure the marker change law needs long-term documentation, it's not just sending in a paper.

At the same time Japan's approach to gender includes a history of gender nonconformity, sometimes for all intents and purposes living in a nonbinary way, or a trans way without changing their gender. A nonbinary identity isn't a stretch, and is a current legal battle.

If Rinko doesn't want bottom surgery, it still makes sense to start with the common perception that bottom surgery is required. Other than their penis being in the way, they may not be uncomfortable enough that it's majorly important to get rid of it. If they want to prevent some of the inconvenience, and orchiectomy, goodbye balls, makes for a big chemical change (counts as a sterilization surgery too).

They should NOT and realistically WILL NOT be able to have surgery at a young age. Huge misconception. I'm hoping it's time for a hormones arc, and a social life actually getting screwed up arc.

I'm still intrigued by the author's intentions as to where they want to take this story. Because out of context, this chapter still looked like three high school girls having an unusually passionate discussion about trans issues.

I feel like stories involving gb and sex change has always toed the line between comedic and actual discussions on trans identity/issues as well as general "what is masculinity/feminity" debates as well. Granted, more often than naught, its usually a male character as the start and ends with them embracing being a girl because it ends up becoming a "straight" romance; kanojo ni series/boku girl/Sekainohate de aimashou. This is one of the rare ones where its a girl turning into a boy, and there's a lot more nuance to the entire situation.
