You can tell when someone hasn’t spent time around cats. Cats don’t usually like belly rubs author

Exactly. . . it takes a long time to build trust, and even then, they'll probably only tolerate 2-5 seconds of it before scratching or biting

cats almost never like belly rubs
only fat and obese cats like to lay on their back as it helps them to breath
but most importantly, cat balls are smaller

when a cat showing their belly, that doesn't mean they want belly rub, quite the opposite in fact, those are their defensive position, they ready to scratch you with four set of claw...

Looks like people here don't know much about cats or at least their cats don't like you lol....

I have a cat(have always have cats) of my own and she always shows me her belly, she likes me to rub her... But you have to do it gently and slowly otherwise ofc it will become bothersome.
They are not dog's so you can't use the same force to pet them.
If they still scratch you even if you are petting them gently and slowly they do hate you or at least you annoy them.

Summary :you are not a cat person or you don't know how to treat or take care of a cat from birth.
